1. "The Sea Hawk" (1940) - Errol Flynn starred in this exciting, but loose adaptation of Rafael Sabatini's 1915 novel about an Elizabethan privateer. Directed by Michael Curtiz, the movie starred Brenda Marshall and Henry Daniell. 
2. "Shakespeare in Love" (1998) - John Madden directed this Best Picture winner about how an imaginary love affair between playwright William Shakespeare and a wealthy merchant's daughter that led to his creation of "Romeo and Juliet". Joseph Fiennes and Oscar winner Gwyneth Paltrow starred.
3. "Anne of the Thousand Days" (1969) - Richard Burton and Oscar nominee Geneviève Bujold starred in this historical drama about Anne Boleyn's relationship with King Henry VIII of England. Charles Jarrott directed.
4. "A Man for All Seasons" (1966) - Oscar winner Fred Zinnemann directed this Best Picture winner, an adaptation of Robert Bolt's play about the final years of Sir Thomas More, Henry VIII's Lord Chancellor. Oscar winner Paul Scofield starred.

"Captain From Castile" (1947) - Tyrone Power starred in this adaptation of Samuel Shellabarger's 1945 novel about a Spanish nobleman's experiences during the Spanish Inquisition and Hernan Cortez's conquest of the Aztecs in Mexico. 7. "Elizabeth" (1998) - Golden Globe winner Cate Blanchett starred in this highly fictionalized account of the early years of Elizabeth I's reign. Directed by Shekhar Kapur, the movie co-starred Geoffrey Rush, Joseph Fiennes and Richard Attenborough.
8. "Ever After" (1998) - Drew Barrymore starred in this loose adaptation of "Cinderella". Directed by Andy Tennant, the movie co-starred Anjelica Houston and Dougray Scott. 
9. "Mary, Queen of Scotland" (1971) - Vanessa Redgrave starred in this biopic about the life of Queen Mary of Scotland. Directed by Charles Jarrott, the movie co-starred Timothy Dalton, Nigel Davenport and Glenda Jackson.
10. "Anonymous" (2011) - Roland Emmerich directed this interesting and highly fictionalized biopic about Elizabethan courtier, Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford. The movie starred Rhys Ifans, Vanessa Redgrave, Joely Richardson and David Thewlis.

1. "Stagecoach" (1939) - John Ford directed this superb adaptation of Ernest Haycox's 1937 short story, "The Stage to Lordsburg", about a group of strangers traveling by stagecoach through the Arizona territory. Claire Trevor, John Wayne and Oscar winner Thomas Mitchell starred.
2. "The Four Feathers" (2002) - Shekhar Kapur directed this fascinating adaptation of A.E.W. Mason's 1902 novel about a former British Army officer accused of cowardice. Heath Ledger, Wes Bentley, Djimon Hounsou and Kate Hudson starred.
3. "Back to the Future Part III" (1990) - Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd starred in this third installment of the "BACK TO THE FUTURE" TRILOGY, in which Marty McFly travels back to the Old West to prevent the death of fellow time traveler, Dr. Emmett "Doc" Brown. Written by Bob Gale, the movie was directed by Robert Zemeckis.
4. "Topsy-Turvy" (1999) - Mike Leigh wrote and directed this biopic about W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan and their creation of their most famous operetta, "The Mikado". Jim Broadbent and Allan Corduner.
5. "Tombstone" (1993) - Kurt Russell and Val Kilmer starred in this colorful and my favorite account about Wyatt Earp, Doc Holliday and the famous O.K. Corral gunfight. George P. Cosmatos directed.
6. "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes" (1939) - Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce starred in this adaptation of William Gillette's 1899 stage play, "Sherlock Holmes". Directed by Alfred L. Werker, the movie co-starred Ida Lupino and George Zucco.
7. "The Cater Street Hangman" (1998) - Eoin McCarthy and Keeley Hawes starred in this television adaptation of Anne Perry's 1979 novel about a serial killer in late Victorian England. Sarah Hellings directed.
8. "The Picture of Dorian Gray" (1945) - Hurd Hatfield and George Sanders starred in this adaptation of Oscar Wilde's 1890 novel about a handsome young Englishman who maintains his youth, while a special portrait reveals his inner ugliness.

"Judgment at Nuremberg" (1961) - Stanley Kramer directed this Oscar winner about an American military tribunal in post-war occupied Germany that tries four Nazi judges for war crimes. Oscar nominee Spencer Tracy, Marlene Dietrich and Oscar winner Maximilian Schell starred.
"Marathon Man" (1976) - Dustin Hoffman, Oscar nominee Laurence Olivier and Roy Schneider starred in this adaptation of William Goldman's 1974 novel about a history graduate student caught up in a conspiracy regarding stolen diamonds, a Nazi war criminal and a rogue government agent. "Voyage of the Damned" (1976) - Faye Dunaway and Max von Sydow starred in this adaptation of Gordon Thomas and Max Morgan-Witts' 1974 book about the fate of the MS St. Louis ocean liner carrying Jewish refugees from Germany to Cuba in 1939. Stuart Rosenberg directed.

"Escape From Sobibor" (1987) - Alan Arkin, Joanna Paula and Golden Globe winner Rutger Hauer starred in this television movie about the mass escape of Jewish prisoners from the Nazi extermination camp at Sobibor in 1943. Jack Gold directed.
"War and Remembrance" (1988) - Dan Curtis produced, directed and co-wrote this Emmy winning television adaptation of Herman Wouk's 1978 novel about the experiences of a naval family and their in-laws during World War II. Robert Mitchum, Jane Seymour, Hart Bochner and John Gielgud starred.
"Schindler’s List" (1993) - Steven Spielberg produced and directed this Oscar winning adaptation of Thomas Keneally's 1982 novel,"Schindler's Ark" about Nazi party member and businessman, Oscar Schindler, who helped saved many Polish-Jewish refugees during the Holocaust by employing them in his factories. "Life Is Beautiful" (1997) - Oscar winner Roberto Benigni starred, directed and co-wrote this Academy Award winning film about a Jewish-Italian book shop owner, who uses his imagination to shield his son from the horrors of a Nazi concentration camp. The movie co-starred Nicoletta Braschi and Giorgio Cantarini.
"The Pianist" (2002) - Roman Polanski directed this Oscar winning adaptation of Polish-Jewish pianist Wladyslaw Szpilman's World War Ii memoirs. Oscar winner Adrien Brody and Thomas Kretschmann starred.
"Black Book" (2006) - Paul Verhoeven directed World War II tale about a Dutch-Jewish woman who becomes a spy for the Resistance after a tragic encounter with the Nazis. Carice van Houten and Sebastian Koch starred.
"The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas" (2008) - Asa Butterfield, Jack Scanlon, Vera Fermiga and David Thewlis starred in this adaptation of John Boyne's 2006 novel about a friendship between two eight year-olds - the son of an extermination camp commandant and a young Jewish inmate. Mark Herman directed.
"Inglourious Basterds" (2009) - Quentin Tarantino wrote and directed this Oscar winning alternate-history tale about two separate plots to assassinate Nazi Germany's high political leadership at a film premiere in Nazi occupied Paris.
